U Tan

U-TAN, born Helliot Opyem, is a Ugandan recording and performing artist, songwriter, composer, businessman, and humanitarian. Hailing from the Alur community in Zombo District, Northern Uganda, U-TAN's musical journey began in his local parish church choir, a passion ignited by his music-loving father. He continued to nurture this talent, leading successful high school choir and MDD groups while dedicating his childhood to composing and writing songs.

After graduating from Kyambogo University with a degree in Accounting and Finance, U-TAN launched his professional music career. He recorded his initial tracks with the renowned Ogopa Dee jayz in Nairobi, Kenya. His debut single, "Babe come 2me," an Afro Dancehall and R&B track, garnered significant airplay across Ugandan and East African television stations. Later, his song "Amiti," accompanied by a visually striking video, achieved substantial airplay and reached number two on the Record TV Katogo countdown.

Following a hiatus from active performance and recording, U-TAN was re-inspired by acclaimed producers Bojo Killer and Andy Music. He is currently engaged in several projects with them, including the creation of an album inspired by the first Alur novel, "Kata Mang’c Uwangu Izaku."
