About

Lucky Ddibe, also known as Kabedoopong Piddo Ddibe'st, is a Ugandan reggae musician and published poet hailing from Kitgum, Northern Uganda. He crafts compelling reggae music, with some of his work featuring the Acoli (Luo) language. His surname, Ddibe, honors a chief from Padibe, a town in Lamwo. He adopted the name Lucky, renouncing his birth name Oscar due to its perceived colonialist and evil associations with Greek gods.

Lucky Ddibe'st's musical journey began while he was a secondary school teacher. Inspired by reggae legends like Lucky Dube, Jimmy Cliff, and Peter Tosh, he recognized the power of reggae's socio-political messages for a Ugandan audience. Collaborating with his friend Stephen Obella, he recorded his debut song "Beggars on the Streets," a reggae rap that garnered significant praise for its message. He followed this with "Emma," a love song, and his impactful hit "Kids Having Kids," which promotes children's rights and has resonated widely across radio stations.

Beyond music, Lucky Ddibe'st is a revolutionary poet. He uses both his music and poetry to address themes of racial equality within Africa, combat corruption, and critique colonialism and the African slave trade. His work calls for the reclamation of Africa by the black race, particularly those in the diaspora.
