About
Dr. Hilderman, born Hillary Kiyaga, is a dynamic Ugandan artist and a qualified doctor. He burst onto the music scene with his smash hit "Double Bed Mazongoto," a song that became a Ugandan standard. Following this massive success, Hilderman has consistently delivered captivating music, including popular tracks like "Campus Gal," "Mr. Matama," "Made in Uganda," "Kampe," and "Amelia." Known for his clean professional record, he maintains positive relationships with fellow musicians.
Hilderman's stage name originated from the affectionate moniker "Hilary the man." He grew up in Mpigi village, later moving to town for his secondary education. A member of a large family, he pursued his passion for music from a young age, actively participating in school music groups. His professional music journey began in his first year of university, though early attempts to balance studies and studio work proved challenging. After completing his education, he fully dedicated himself to music, leading to his breakthrough with "Double Bed Mazongoto."
Inspired by Ugandan music pioneers like Bobi Wine and Silver Kyagulanyi, Hilderman found motivation in their rise to prominence. He also drew inspiration from encounters with various celebrities at music and drama events.
Outside of his music career, Hilderman enjoys spending time with friends, attending house parties, and indulging in nyama kyomo. He is also a sports enthusiast, particularly fond of basketball, and is a skilled goalkeeper and volleyball player.
A devout Catholic, Dr. Hilderman is married to Cissy Namuddu, and they have two children. While not actively involved in politics, he holds strong views on democracy and its practical application.
Music has brought immense fulfillment to Hilderman, enabling him to connect with fans, support his family, acquire property, and travel the world. He believes in the power of music to positively influence society. Despite the rewards, he navigates challenges such as intense competition, the expenses of music marketing, and the impact of poor copyright laws on the industry. Hilderman also observes a lack of distinct identity in Ugandan music, hindering its broader market reach.
Looking ahead, Hilderman is committed to nurturing emerging talent and plans to establish a band for live performances. He encourages young artists to embrace originality and develop their unique identities. Currently, he is working on a new ten-track album, with the video launch for the title track "Do As I Say" having recently taken place.
