About
Aziz Mukisa, known professionally as Aziz Azion, was born in 1984 in Fort Portal, western Uganda. He began his music career as a session guitarist, backing numerous Ugandan artists. Azion transitioned to singing in 2005, releasing his debut single "Monday." His breakthrough came with the hit song "Nkumila Omukwano," which dominated Ugandan music charts. Subsequent successful tracks include "Yegwe," "Nzikiriza," "Nakupenda," "Wampisa," and "Beautiful."
Raised in Kampala, Azion's formal education concluded at Senior 4 before he entered the music industry. He honed his skills in guitar playing at a music training institution. Initially working as a backup vocalist and instrumentalist, Azion's vocal talent adds a distinctive flavor to his music.
In 2001, Azion joined the late Paul Kafeero's Kulabako guitar singers as a guitarist. He later moved to Diamonds Production, founded by radio presenter Kato Lubwama, and subsequently joined Eagles Production, alongside prominent artists like Geoffrey Lutaaya, Ronald Mayinja, and Mesearch Semakula. Around this time, Azion, along with Cliff Mutebi, Richard Jemba, and Geoffrey Dungu (Dandaloo), formed the Jeckaki Band. This ensemble of backup instrumentalists performed with various artists, making their international debut in 2005 during Jose Chameleon's European tour, performing in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Belgium, and Finland. The band continued to collaborate with Emperor Orlando on a Scandinavian tour in 2006 and participated in Ragga Dee's African tour in 2008.
More recently, Aziz Azion has performed in unplugged sessions, including one with Ugandan artist Cindy. His hit single "Nkumira Omukwano," released in early 2008, garnered significant airplay on radio stations in Kampala, notably topping the Capital FM charts, and remains a popular track. Azion has also released several other songs, many accompanied by music videos, including "Yegwe," "Nkumira Omukwano," "Kano Koze," "Cheza Dada," "Sirina Mulala," and "Monday."
