About

Angela Kalule, born February 18, 1977, in Kampala, Uganda, began her musical journey in childhood. Her early vocal experiences in nursery and Sunday school laid the groundwork for a professional career launched in 1997. Kalule's formal education included institutions in Nairobi, Kenya, and various schools in Uganda.

Her significant breakthrough into the music industry came when she joined the renowned Diamond Ensemble, led by Kato Lubwama. Initially a backup vocalist from 1997 to 1999, she quickly transitioned to lead vocalist. During this period, she released the ballad single ‘Akamuli,’ marking her prominent arrival. She also collaborated with Abby Mukiibi on the ‘bulemezi’ songs.

Following her time with Diamond, Kalule performed with the Light Rays band, focusing on popular cover songs during a time when local music appreciation was less widespread. She later returned to Diamond Ensemble, where she recorded a six-track album titled ‘Akasisi’ with fellow vocalist Dan Kabenje, each contributing three songs.

Kalule is recognized for her versatility across various musical genres, setting her apart in the Ugandan music scene. She currently leads her own band, the K'angie band, performing in hotels around Kampala. Her career includes collaborations with numerous musicians and bands, including the celebrated Afrigo Band, solidifying her status as a prominent figure in Ugandan music. Angela Kalule continues to be a significant artist with a promising future.
