Amaru

Amaru is a Ugandan-born singer and songwriter currently based in New York City. Her name means "I love" (in Alur) and "I have loved" (in Luo).

Born into a musical family—her father a gifted singer and instrumentalist, her mother a singer—Amaru developed a love for music early on. Though she initially shied away from performing publicly during her teenage years, she focused instead on writing poetry, nurturing her gift as a songwriter. This dedication led to early recognition: one of her first songs, written in her mid-teens, won the Senior Music Category at The International Schools Talent Show in Uganda in 2009.

Amaru’s music, which she defines as "Soul-Truth," is inspired by real-life experiences, emotions, and passions. She uses songwriting as a vehicle to find freedom, express herself, and navigate difficult life moments. Her training at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York instilled in her a deep respect for Truth, which remains the core foundation of her artistic output. She aims to create music that inspires, affects, and changes listeners, believing that art not founded on truth is lifeless. Amaru’s ultimate goal is for her audience to encounter her spiritual source and find true freedom through her work.
