About

Ariong James Oscar, professionally known as AJO, is a Ugandan-born hip-hop and rap recording artist and songwriter. Born to Dr. Atai Anne and Mr. James Okaali, AJO has established himself as a vibrant and outspoken rapper, recognized for his impressive blend of wit, literacy, and character in his lyrics. This unique skill has led many to describe him as an intersection of hip-hop talent.

AJO's passion for music began in childhood, long before his involvement in the hip-hop scene. His mother, Dr. Atai Anne, recalls him frequently waking the household with his humming and chanting. He discovered hip-hop around the age of 12, drawn to the genre's message, attitude, freedom, intricacy, and the respect it commanded. This sparked his journey into songwriting, initially by creating cover versions of his favorite hip-hop tracks, which gradually honed his lyrical abilities.

During high school, AJO formed a music group called Clean Block Gang (C.B.G) with school friends. His dedication to songwriting was evident, with Abel Lubulwa, a C.B.G member, noting AJO's tendency to write lyrics on any available surface.

AJO went on to record early songs such as "Rap music I sing," "Rap city," and "Take it down easy." He later collaborated with Ugandan producer HANNZ TACTIQ on his first radio hit, "NEVER BACK DOWN," featuring Lethal and Hannz Tactiq himself. This track gained significant radio airplay and charted on HOT 100.

Furthering his career, AJO connected with former rapper and producer Joe Tumwebaze, also known as J.T., founder of Yego Productions. Under J.T.'s mentorship, AJO fully embraced his hip-hop aspirations, mastering his craft and releasing his first music compilation, "Rap Music I Sing." This project offers listeners a deep understanding of AJO as both an artist and an individual, showcasing his lyrical and content maturity.

AJO is a compelling artist with the ambition and talent to become a leading rapper in Africa and beyond, serving as an inspiration to aspiring artists and a formidable presence in the hip-hop landscape.
